JIM MCHUGH GARRYCASTLE TOURNAMENT
Monday 9TH September 2024
U12 Rd 3 Jim McHugh Garrycastle Tournament – Lilliput Gaels v The Downs
Venue : The Downs GAA
Our u12s
travelled to last years’ winners of the Garrycastle Tournament,
The Downs. This was an enthralling game from start to finish. We got
off to a quick start in the game by scoring a number of fantastic
points from both short and long range distance. A strong defensive
display by Lilliput Gaels saw us go into the half time break with a
slender lead. In the second half both teams played some brilliant
football culminating with some great scores. With 10 mins remaining ,
the Downs had scored a couple of goals to lead by 2 points at that
point. However Lilliput Gaels strong resilience, never say die attitude
and determination saw us level the game with minutes remaining. The
game was very open at this point with both teams having chances to win
the game. The game subsequently finished in a draw with Lilliput Gaels
scoring 2-09 to the The Downs 3-06. Both teams left the pitch to a
round of applause from both supporters/parents. This was a brilliant
advert for U12 football and was by far the best team performance put in
by this group of U12 players since the start of the year. Thanks to all
the parents and supporters who showed up on the evening to cheer the
team on and thanks to the referee also for contributing to a great
game. Results elsewhere in the group now means that we have qualified
to play in a home quarter final against Maryland/Tang.

Sunday 25TH August 2024 U12 Rd 1 Jim McHugh Garrycastle Tournament – Lilliput Gaels v Mullingar Shamrocks Venue : Ballinagore GAA On Sunday 25th August our U12 played their first round game of the Jim McHugh Garrycastle Tournament in Ballinagore. The visitors got off to a quick start in the first quarter of the game and led by number of points after 15 mins. Lilliput Gaels then managed to slowly get back in the game by replying with a number of fine scores in the latter end of the first half. A strong finish by Lilliput Gaels in the first half resulted in both teams finishing the game level at half time. Both Teams started similarly in the second half with an exchange of scores with both teams level after 15 minutes of the second half. A strong finish to the game in the second half with a rally of fine point taking by our visitors resulted in them winning the game. This was a very sporting game and both teams displayed some great skills on the day. For Lilliput Gaels, this was the first time a number of the players would have played tournament football. Our team played with great character and a determination that saw us fight back and level the game on a number of occasions. Thanks to all the parents and supporters who showed up on the day to cheer the team on and thanks to the referee on the day for also contributing to a great game. U12 Rd 2 Jim McHugh Garrycastle Tournament – Lilliput Gaels v Tyrellspass Venue : Tyrellspass GAA On Wednesday 28th August, Lilliput Gaels U12 played their second round game of the Jim McHugh Garrycastle Tournament against Tyrellspass away. This was a very entertaining game with very little between the sides in the end. Lilliput Gaels played with the wind in the first half and managed to lead the game at half time through some very fine score taking. To Tyrellpass credit and with the aid of the wind in the second half, Tyrellpass came back strongly in the second half with some great scores of their own.
