U16 Football Div. 1 Championship Semi Final
(23rd 0f September, 2024) The Down 3-13 Lilliput Gaels 2-07
It
wasn’t to be for our U16’s as they suffered defeat to The
Downs in the Division 1 semi final played last Monday evening in The
Downs. A great start saw the team dominate the opening quarter and
build up a healthy lead, until disaster struck when our influential
midfielder, Luke Robinson picked up a nasty knee injury. This gave our
opponents a way back into the game and they held a slender 3 point lead
at the break. Lilliput came out strong in the second half and reduced
the deficit, but couldn’t contain a powerful The Downs teams as
the half progressed. Well done to the players on a terrific year which
saw them secure the Division 2 league title and qualify for the
Division 1 championship semi final. Massive commitment, heart and
dedication shown by the team throughout the year. Everyone would like
to wish Luke Robinson a speedy recovery from his injury and we look
forward to seeing him back on the playing fields in the near future.

Moate All Whites
0-11Our final group game was away to Moate on Sunday morning, where a win for either team would see them progress to the semi final.
With
both teams changing jerseys, Lilliput took to the field wearing the
famed Castletown jerseys. Playing with the aid of a strong wind, Moate
dominated the early exchanges and with some wonderful long range point
taking, saw them race into a 7 points to 1 lead. However the Lilliput
lads up’ed their tackle count and started turning over the ball. In the
last 10 mins they scored two well taken goals, to go in at the break,
ahead by one.
Moate
came out strong in the second half and got some early scores, however,
like the first half the Lilliput lads came more into the game as the
half wore on. Another well taken goal mid way through, saw them take
the lead again. Some brave defending in the closing stages kept out the
goal Moate were searching for.
Great
credit to the players, who despite coming up against physically
stronger teams, showed great character to win three of their group
games and now progress to the Division 1 semi-final, where they will
take on The Downs.

Killucan
0-10A busy week for the U16’s began with a home game against Killucan in Ballinagore on Monday evening.
In a tough
encounter with little between the teams, a goal for Lilliput following
a defensive error shortly before half time was all that separated the
teams at the break. In an evenly matched second half this goal was
still the difference at the end, with Lilliput prevailing on a score
line of 1.10 to 0.10

Delvin/St. Pauls
2-12Our
U16 team welcomed Delvin/St Paul to Ballinagore on Wednesday evening
for the Div 2 league final, in what was a repeat of our final group
game, which Lilliput narrowly won, securing home advantage for the
final. Goals proved the order of the day, with Lilliput’s ability
to find the net the difference between the two teams, in what was a
very competitive game. In fact Lilliput missed a number of great
chances before the first one arrived after ten minutes. While Lilliput
were scoring goals, our opponents kicked some really good points and
not to be outdone, they scored two of their own goals mid way through
the first half, through their very lively corner forward, who proved a
real handful through out the game. As the first half entered its final
minutes, only two points separated the teams, however a late goal and a
point. saw Lilliput lead by 5-3 to 2-6 at the break. Another early goal
and an improved defensive display saw the lads keep our opponents at
arms length, despite being under significant pressure. Some further
late scores capped a decent display and the team prevailed, on a final
score line of 8-4 to 2-12. After the game captain Cian Corcoran
accepted the trophy on behalf of the team. Well done to the team and
management on the victory. Thanks to our opponents on a very sporting
and competitive game. Thanks to all our supporters who turned out in
strong numbers to support the team.

Under 16 League (1st of April, 2024) We welcomed St Michaels to Ballinagore on Easter Monday, in round 2 of the league. Lilliput played some good football in a dominant first half, however the concession of a goal on the stroke of half time, gave our opposition something to play for in the second half. Our opponents, a physically imposing side, dominated much of the second half however the lads never stopped battling and managed to get enough scores to hold out for a narrow victory, despite an impressive comeback from our opponents. 1-17We welcomed Athlone to Ballinagore last Monday evening for the 2nd round of the championship. In a tight 1st half we stayed with our strong opposition but found scores hard to come by and with the aid of a goal Athlone were up at the break 1-7 to 6 points. The 2nd half was very one sided as Athlone took total control of the match to run out easy winners. The highlight of an otherwise bad evening for us was the performance of our goalie Darragh Fagan who from the throw in denied Athlone with a string of sublime saves throughout the match and only for him the scoreline would have been a lot worse. Multyfarnham
2-07We hosted Multyfarnham in Ballinagore on Saturday in the league final played in very warm sunshine. Both teams have to be credited for serving up a very entertaining game of football which was enjoyed by the large crowd in attendance. Lilliput Gaels started brightly with some very good early points to race into a 3 point lead. Multy cancelled that out with a goal to level the game while we spurned two goal scoring chances down our end. It was end to end play for the rest of the half until we finally finished to the net through Adam Cassidy after some great approach play. That gave us a slight advantage at the break 1-10 to 2-05. Our lads came out with real intent in the second half holing our opponents to just two points while we tacked on another 10 points to seal the win. This was an excellent team display to round off what has being an excellent league campaign. Panel . 1-14We kept up our
unbeaten league run with a good win against St Michael’s in
Ballinagore last Monday evening to qualify for the league final. It was
a perfect evening for football and both teams served up an entertaining
game with some great scores taken. We were quick out of the blocks and
two very well taken early goals by Dylan Corrigan got us off to the
perfect start . Our opponents chipped over some very good points to
keep the game close but we struck for two more goals to put us in a
strong position at the break. The second half was end to end stuff but
our lads defended very well to ensure we got the win . We now play
Multyfarnham in the league final with a date to be confirmed.

1-06We
made it four league wins from four on Monday evening in Milltownpass.
This was a very close encounter from start to finish with both teams
giving it everything for the hour. Scores were hard come by as the
underfoot conditions were very slippy. It was all square at the break
0-05 to 1-02 but a converted penalty midway through the second half
swung the game in Milltownpass’ favour. Our lads dug deep for the
final quarter and a well worked goal after a great turnover gave us the
win.

played our first league game on Friday evening in multyfarnham’s

succession by the inform Dylan Corrigan got us into the game . From
then on it was end to end stuff as the game ebbed and flowed . We found
ourselves two points down heading into full time but somehow we managed
to put a good move together for Adam Cassidy to riffle to the net to
secure the win . Well done to the boys for their never say die

Shandonagh 2-06Well done to our Under 17's who had a well deserved win over Shandonagh in Ballinagore on Sunday morning to claim the Div. 1 Shield trophy. This was a fitting reward for this dedicated panel and their mentors as any Div. 1 title is certainly hard earned. We started brightly and had three points on the board before Shandonagh responded with a goal from a penalty and after a tight first half the teams were on level terms at the break. With the wind behind us in the second half and having spurned three good goal chamces in the first half we looked to be in a favourable position to push on and win the game. Despite having a player black carded early in the second half we dominated exchanges from the throw in to the final whistle to register a memorable victory. Shandonagh 1-04Our U16 footballers took on neighbours Shandonagh in the Division 1 Shield Final in The Downs on Saturday morning last. When the teams met in early July in the championship we were two point victors in a high scoring game. This was certainly not going to be a high scoring encounter on this occasion as the scoreline read 0-1 to 0-0 to Shandonagh at the end of a very cagey first half. Scores were still very hard to come by in the second half between two very evenly matched sides and when we scored a late goal to draw level extra time looked to be on the cards but an injury time point from Shandonagh proved to be the winner. Well done to the players and management for their efforts during the year and it was an outstanding achievement to qualify for the Division 1 Shield Final. Moate All Whites 3-11There was amazing scenes at the end of this breathtaking match played in Ballinagore on Monday evening when we came from eight points down at half time to claim a one point victory. Moate started the game in a very lively fashion and their forwards were scoring at will and when they got in for their second goal just before half time it looked to be game over as they held a 2-07 to 0-5 lead at the interval. We came out with renewed confidence in the second half and with Peter Reynolds and Peter Dalton supplying our forwards with a plentiful supply of ball we gradually ate into Moate's big lead. Two great goals from Cody Finnane brought us within a point of Moate and Killian Bolger, who was having his best ever game, swung over a couple of superb points to put us in front with five minutes left. Moate then struck for a goal to put them back in front before the deadly duo of Peter Murphy and Shane Corcoran combined for a well worked goal from the latter to regain the lead. Now it was the turn of our backline to excel as they came under pressure from our opponents who went all out for an equaliser but the final whistle came to our rescue and we qualified for a place in the county final. Well done to all involved especially the management team of Conor Elliffe and Sean Claffey who stepped up to the mark with flying colours as their co manager, Olly Kirby, was missing due to holidays. The team sported their new jerseys which are kindly sponsored by Club Activ Gym, Mullingar and we thank them for their generosity. St. Lomans 4-11St. Lomans proved too strong in this playoff game to determine the semi final pairings for the premier championship in a game played in Ballinagore on Monday last. We were always chasing this game from an early stage as we struggled to win primary possession in the middle third of the field and two late goals gave our opponents a healthy 3-06 to 0-1 half time lead. In fairness to our lads they never threw in the towell in the second half and were unlucky not to eat further into the St. Lomans lead when we missed a few good goal chances. We now enter the shield competition but the team and management can hold their heads high after competing at the top level in under 16 football which is always of a very high standard . Panel; Sean Jackson, Cathal Kelly, Ryan Boyne, Tiernan McMahon, Peter Dalton, David Maloney, Shane Doran, Peter Reynolds, Luke Seery, Cathal Elliffe, Warric Kirby, Cody Finnane, Peter Murphy, Killian Bolger, Shane Corcoran, Jack Gannon, Sean Kincaid, Niall Claffey, Odhran Gavigan(inj). Coralstown/Kinnegad 2-23A very strong Coralstown/Kinnegad side who are hot favourites to win the championship inflicted a heavy defeat on our lads in Kinnegad on Tuesday last. We performed brilliantly in the first half and were only behind by seven points on a scoreline of 1-10 to 1-3 but with only two subs to call on to replace tired legs we were unable to keep tabs on our opponents in the second half. A feature of the game was two fine penalty saves from Sean Jackson but unfortunately for Sean Kinnegad managed to score goals from both rebounds. A win in our last game against St.Lomans will see us qualify for the knockout stages of the championship. Under 16 Championship Division 1. (15th of July, 2019)

Shandonagh 2-12Shandonagh were the visitors to Ballinagore on Monday evening for a first round championship encounter. After the opening ten minutes it looked like our lads were certainties to garner the two points on offer as we hit the opposition for three goals but by half time Shandonagh recovered well to go in on level terms on a scoreline of 3-01 to 1-07. The second half continued in this vein with neither side able to pull away on the scoreboard. With ten minutes left a converted penalty from Shandonagh put them in the driving seat until a well worked move was finished expertly by Peter Murphy to the net to put us in front with five minutes left on the clock. A missed penalty from the Gaels could have proved costly but we managed to weather several late Shandonagh attacks to hold on for a tight win. As in our previous league outing our goalkeeper, Peter Dalton, pulled off several outstanding saves proving that his intercounty call up was well justified. Well done to all the lads who turned out, especially the under 14's, as numbers are tight at this age group. Panel; Peter Dalton, Cathal Kelly, Ryan Boyne, Sean Kincaid, Odhran Gavigan, Tiernan McMahon, David Maloney, Shane Doran, Peter Reynolds, Cathal Elliffe, Warric Kirby, Cody Finnane, Peter Murphy, Luke Seery, Shane Corcoran, Jack Gannon. Tyrrellspass 0-13We suffered another defeat in Division 1 to a very committed Tyrrellpass side in Tyrrellpass on Monday evening. From the throw in the home side were on top in nearly every position and we were lucky that we just went in six points behind at half time as our opponents missed two open goals just before the change of ends. We played our best football in the opening ten minutes of the second half and got the lead down to 0-8 to 0-4 but when we missed two good goal chances the game swung back in Tyrrellpass's favour and they finished out the game strongly. The highlight of the second half for our side was an excellent save from Peter Dalton which kept us in the game. Inny Shamrocks 4-04Our U16 footballers were crowned Division 3 champions on Monday following this comprehensive victory over a gallant Inny Shamrocks side in The Downs. Inny Shamrocks started as lively as the breeze behind them and we found ourselves under considerable pressure in the opening quarter. This intense pressure seemed to unnerve us early on but thankfully, due to a combination of poor shot selections and resolute defending, we found ourselves only two points in arrears at the midway point in the half. Shortly after that, we got our opening score. Peter Reynolds, who started in the full forward line but was now operating further out the field, collected a ball and went on a strong surge. His pass to Cody Finnane in space resulted in Cody expertly placing the ball past a diving keeper into the bottom corner. Any nerves we had until that moment disappeared in a flash. The introduction of Warric Kirby (who missed a lot of our season through soccer commitments and recovered just in time from a broken bone in his hand) around this time had an impact and we continued to dominate the remaining ten minutes of the half with well finished goals by Darragh Seery and Warric. Inny Shamrocks were still a threat however and they earned a penalty which was well finished, despite a great effort by our keeper Peter Dalton, to leave the half time score Lilliput Gaels 3-03 Inny Shamrocks 1-03. With the wind on our backs, we anticipated a strong performance from the lads in the second half and they didn't disappoint. Darragh Seery won the throw in and we attacked straight away with a point resulting. We began to assert ourselves and create chances with further goals coming from boots of Peter Reynolds, Conor Murphy and Warric Kirby. We received a setback with twelve minutes of normal time remaining when we lost the influential Zach Wright to a straight red card. This left us with plenty of defending to do as Inny Shamrocks, to their credit, piled on the pressure right to the end. Ryan Boyne, Tiernan McMahon and Darragh Seery led the defensive charge to quash the Inny Shamrocks challenge and, with their men pushed forward, we were able to punish them on the break and we finished with two well taken goals to run out convincing winners at the final whistle. The sense of achievement was evident as parents and supporters spilled onto the field to celebrate with this group of players on their first U16 championship success. Captain, Cian Gavigan, received the trophy from underage secretary Michael McHugh and thanked the club, mentors, players and supporters before giving three cheers for a plucky Inny Shamrocks side. This was a magnificent end to the year, the culmination of a long season of training and development for this talented panel of players. We have to give a special mention to two players who played all year long but missed out playing in the final due to untimely injuries. Our goalkeeper, Lorcan Kiernan, and corner back, Mark Killian, both unfortunately sprained ankles in the lead up to the game and didn't recover in time. Both lads featured strongly in all our games this year so it was really disappointing for them to miss out, however they were with us in all of our final preparations and again on Monday and this was another driver for the panel to succeed. A third panel member, Adam McGoldrick, also missed the action due to injury. A second special mention to the U14 players, David Maloney, Peter Murphy and Jack Gannon, who augmented our panel all year with David and Peter both impressing when introduced on Monday. Well done and congratulatons to the entire squad and their mentors. Multy came out a much improved side in the second half and helped themselves to some well worked scores but Lilliput Gaels regained their composure in the final quarter to run out easy winners in the end. Our U16 team travelled to Rochfortbridge last Monday to take on the locals in our second league game of the year. We were minus the services of a number of players on the evening but thankfully a number of our U14's helped out after their busy Féile weekend and yet again they impressed. This was a very spirited performance by our lads and they created enough chances over the hour to have won the game comfortably, however a high wide count and some great goalkeeping by the Bridge's number one kept our scoreline down. After a tight first half, we trailed by 1-05 to 0-03. It would have been closer as we had the ball in the net but the referee didn't allow the advantage and instead called play back afterwards for a free in, which was pointed. A second half penalty earned and converted by Conor Murphy along with a well executed goal by Cody Finnane kept us in the chase but unfortunately for us we saw chance after chance either fly wide or saved. In the end, St. Mary's held out for the win but our lads had given them a great battle. We saw some great performances on the evening. Lorcan Kiernan was solid as a rock in the goals and his kickouts were excellent, Peter Reynolds and Darragh Seery bossed the midfield exchanges throughout, our defence worked tirelessly with Tiernan McMahon and Cody Finnane impressing. Up front, Conor Murphy had a fine game and he finished with a personal tally of 1-05. Having done way beyond expectations to reach this far in the competition by qualifying from a strong group the players and management can be very proud of the progress made this year. The Downs were very strong in all positions and were really up for this game, but as in every game our lads played this season, we never threw in the towel and kept taking the fight to our opponents. Athlone meant business from the off and raced into a 10 point lead by half time but as they proved against Kilbeggan/St. Josephs this panel never give in. Playing with far more pace and agression in the second half our lads somehow quarried out a one point win to qualify with St. Lomans for the knockout stages. Kilbeggan/St. Josephs 3-08In one of the best underage games seen in Ballinagore this year our Under 16's upset the odds when they beat Kilbeggan/St. Josephs by five points in this game played in wet conditions on Monday evening. Having lost to our opponents by nine points in the league we knew we were underdogs coming into this game and at half time the visitors looked home and dry when they held a six point lead. An early second half point reduced the deficit but when Kilbeggan/St. Josephs converted a penalty to give them an eight point lead we looked dead and buried. Unbelievably this was to be the visitors last score of the game as every one of our players upped their game and point by point clawed their way back until a Peter Reynolds goal brought us level with five minutes left. Up until this point both the opposition keeper and the woodwork, which we hit four times, kept out what seemed certain goals. There was still time for Kilbeggan/St. Josephs to go ahead but some fine saves from Jamie Keenan in the final minutes kept them at bay until a brilliant Darragh Seery goal and two excellent frees from Cathal Maher and Eoin Glennon secured victory. Well done to the players and their mentors, Paul Seery and Joe Glennon, on this display of all that is good in the game of football. Our opponents were bigger in most sectors of the field and although there was only a few points between the sides with fifteen minutes gone we were unfortunate to let them in for three goals before half time. Some fine defending and good saves from Jamie Fallon kept the goal count down in the second half and our lads never threw in the towell and were unlucky not to register a few more scores. Caulry
10-12We took on the Division 1 League winners in Ballinagore on Monday evening and gave our highly rated opponents a right good game. We were short a few of our regular players but the lads on show put in a huge effort and took the game to Caulry to the final whistle. We rattled the crossbar twice in the second half which would have put a better appearance on the final score but the scores we did amass were the result of fine flowing moves. Both side must be commended on the entertainment they provided the large crowd present with. 7-07 In a similar scoreline to our last league outing we finished this championship opener with a three point defeat to Multy. As a result of holidays, injuries etc. we were short a number of players against a stong Multy side. Without ever looking likely to win the game our lads never gave up and kept our opponents well in their sights with several well taken goals. Under 16 League Division 2 (11th of July, 2016)

After holding our own against a very strong and mobile Shandonagh side for the opening twenty minutes we let our concentration slip to allow them in for three goals before half time. knew it would be hard to repeat the result away from home but this improving

won by five points. Great credit to Liam Glennon and Kieran Deegan for the hard

Under 16 League Championship St. Malachys/Ballinagore 5 - 07 St. Lomans 4 - 11Our under 16 side entertained St. Lomans in

It was a close game throughout with our lads in front by a goal at the end of a
first half of which the highlight was a brilliant penalty save by Keenan
Carroll. St. Lomans looked home and dry when they held a healthy lead with five
minutes left but our lads finished strongly to close to within a point, but
Lomans just held out to win on a scoreline of St. Malachys/Ballinagore 5-07, St.

run in the league with a good win away to Coralstown/Kinnegad on Monday last.
Having scored an impressive twenty one goals in their three previous wins the
boys showed they can rack up the points as well when they scored 3-21 to
Coralstown/Kinnegad’s 2-07. Well done to the players and management as they
have a very small panel to pick from.

three games with a tremendous win over a strong Shannon Gaels team which is a
combination of Maryland, Tang and Tubberclair clubs. We only had fifteen
players togged out and when Shane Meehan had to go off injured after ten
minutes our chances of victory looked slim. At the end of a great game of
attacking football our fourteen players held out for a famous win on a
scoreline of St. Malachys/Ballinagore 8-07, Shannon Gaels 4-11. We wish Shane a

Under 16 Division 2 Championship Final St. Malachys/Ballinagore 1 - 12 Mullingar Shamrocks 1 - 08The Under 16’s were the proud winners of
this year’s Division 2 Championship when they overcame Mullingar Shamrocks in
the final in Rochfordbridge on Saturday last. This side started the year in the
very competitive Division 1 League where they were unlucky not to record a few
victories but these tough games really stood to them when they dropped down to
the Division 2 Championship. The future certainly looks bright as this year’s
Under 14’s also reached the Division 2 final and the excellent coaching these
youngsters are receiving from an early age is certainly paying off. Well done
to the players, parents, supporters and the management team, especially team
manager Liam Glennon, on this brilliant win.

Mullingar Shamrocks are our opponents in the final but no doubt the team

Under 16 Division 2 Championship Quarter Final St. Malachys/Ballinagore 1 - 13 Milltownpass 1 - 12The Under 16’s took on Milltownpass in the
quarter final of the championship in Ballinagore on Monday evening last.
Without a victory in their previous
games in a very competitive Division 1, hopes were high as this team was
improving with each outing and the drop down to Division 2 for the championship
was also an advantage. At the end of an exciting first half we lead by two
points with both sides putting together some very impressive moves. Aided by a
well struck penalty from Paddy Doody, which the excellent Milltownpass
goalkeeper almost got a hand to, we went five points up with ten minutes left.
Our opponents then took over and went two points up with just a few minutes
left but three well executed points from the home side saw us victors on a
scoreline of St. Malachys/Ballinagore 1-13, Milltownpass 1-12.

This side beat many of the teams competing in the top division during the league phase of the Championship and with about ten sides with little to separate them at this age group reaching the final of the Division 2 championship would be no mean feat Panel; Cathal Daly, Andrew Corbett, Alan Kincaid, Brendan Heeney, Johnny Bermingham, Shane Clavin, Liam McNally-Woods, Liam Cassidy, Connor Glennon, Brian Pidgeon, Brandon Carey, Stephen Fagan, Cormac Deegan, Pauric Kincaid, Paddy Doody, Eoin Mullarkey, Michael Creegan, Dan Glennon, Cathal Clarke.

Under 16 Club Championship St. Malachys/Ballinagore 2 - 09 St. Marys 2 - 10We got off to a very disappointing start to our championship campaign when we lost to St. Marys by a point in a game played in Castletown on Friday last. We started well and were four points to nil up when a reckless and needless challenge gave our opponents a penalty which they dispatched to bring them back into the game. This set the trend of the game with our players amassing several yellow cards as well as a straight red card in the second half. A fine Pauric Kincaid point and a well taken goal by Dan Glennon late on should have wrapped up this game for us but our ill discipline resulted in our defence giving away a second penalty which was also scored to give the Bridge a one point win. The final scoreline was St. Malachys/Ballinagore 2-09, St. Marys 2-10. Panel; Cathal Daly, Eoin Mullarkey, Alan Kincaid, Joseph Fagan, Johnny Bermingham, Shane Clavin(0-1), Liam McNally-Woods, Liam Cassidy(0-3f), Conor Glennon, Brian Pidgeon(0-1), Brandon Carey, Paddy Doody(1-1), Cormac Deegan(0-1f), Pauric Kincaid(0-2), Dan Glennon(1-0), Ben Glennon, James Murphy, Andrew Corbett(inj).

This age group is proving to be a very competitive one with very little between a host of clubs and the two teams in action in this game proved they will be a match for any of the bigger clubs when they played out an entertaining game. Killucan ran out winners on the night on a scoreline of Killucan 2-10 to St. Malachys/Ballinagore 2-07. This team are certainly hitting a rich vein of form having defeated Athlone in their previous game. After soaking up all the pressure in the first half we went three points up with five minutes remaining but missed several chances to put Mullingar away and with time almost up they scored a brilliant equalising goal. From the kickout Liam Cassidy grabbed the ball and fired over a magnificent winning point with the last kick of the game. Well done to all involved with this team. Under 16 Division 1 Club Championship Final St. Malachys/Ballinagore 2 - 09
Coralstown/Kinnegad 2 - 05 The dream became a reality for this team when they made a clean sweep of the Under 16 competitions this year when we added the Div 1 Club Championship to the Div 1 League and Premier Championship titles already captured. Played in Lakepoint Park in wintry and windy conditions we found ourselves 1-4 to a goal down at half time having played against a strong breeze. This could have been a far greater difference but for some great defending and lucky escapes. On the resumption it took us five minutes to claw back the difference when we scored 1-2 without reply. We enjoyed the lion's share of posession in the second half but it was only in the last few minutes that we managed to pull four points clear of a very dogged Coralstown/Kinnegad team. Many thanks to Dean McDermott who played despite being sick all week with a bad flu and to Niall Gunning who cancelled travelling to a family celebration in Mayo to play a huge part in the victory. Also to the loyal band of supporters who have turned out in such numbers to support the team this year. After the match a very proud captain Michael Dever and vice-captain Ed Bermingham accepted the cup from Minor County Board Chairman, John Weir. Panel: Eoin Quinn, Ciaran Glennon, Dean McDermott, Enda Claffey, Niall Gunning, David Lynch, Diarmuid Raleigh, Aonghus Clarke (0-1), Michael Dever, Alan Clarke (0-1), Luke Peppard, David Pidgeon, Neal Kirby (0-7, 0-4f), Niall O’Brien (2-0), Michael Heeney Subs: Frankie Deegan for Enda Claffey, Cathal Tynan for David Pidgeon, Ed Bermingham, Sean Mullarkey, Kyle Dever, Shane Clavin, Liam Varley (inj).
Under 16 Division 1 Club Championship Semi-Final St. Malachys/Ballinagore 1 - 09
Mullingar Shamrocks 0 - 11 Our Under 16s qualified for the Club 1 Final with a hard-earned one point win over a very fancied Shamrocks side. A great goal from Neal Kirby rocked our opponents and we went into at half-time leading 1-5 to 0-4. Mullingar piled on the pressure in the second half and the sides were level as we entered injury time. Aonghus Clarke had only one thing on his mind as he carried yet another ball from our defence into our opponents half and he swung over a brilliant point to take this tremendous team to the final where we face Coralstown/Kinnegad in our bid to bring off an unprecedented treble after annexing the Division 1 League and the Premier Final already this year. Panel: Eoin Quinn, Ciaran Glennon, Dean McDermott, Enda Claffey, Niall Gunning, David Lynch, Diarmuid Raleigh, Aonghus Clarke (0-2), Michael Dever, Alan Clarke (0-1), Niall O’Brien (0-1), Michael Heeney, Cathal Tynan, Neal Kirby (1-04, 0-1f), Luke Peppard (0-1), Ed Bermingham, David Pidgeon, Sean Mullarkey, Kyle Dever, Shane Clavin, Liam Varley (inj).Ennell Shamrocks Under 16s clinch Premier title Ennell Shamrocks 0 - 15 Shannon Gaels 0 - 11 In a very windswept and wet Cusack Park on Saturday last, our Under 16s were crowned Premier Champions for 2009. Having lost the toss we were forced to play with the strong swirling breeze in the first half and we retired at half time with a 0-09 to 0-01 lead which looked anything but enough as Shannon Gaels looked very dangerous when they got the ball forward and with eight county pannellists in their ranks the game was far from over at half time. Amazingly for the first ten minutes of the second half we took the game to our opponents and led by 0-12 to 0-04 with about 20 minutes left. The expected backlash from Shannon Gaels began in earnest then and we were forced into a rearguard action for most of the remaining 20 minutes. However some great moves from defence and vital scores when needed brought us over the line with four points to spare. Congratulations to all invoved with the team on this great achievement which completed a double for many of the panel who had secured the Under 16 Hurling Premier title two week's early. A special word of thanks to Luke Peppard who lined out having just returned from Wexford after the sad passing of his grandmother during the week. Under 16 Premier Championship Semi-Final Ennell Shamrocks 3 - 14
St. Finians 0 - 04 Ennell Shamrocks qualified for their first premiership final in twelve years with a resounding victory over the combination team of Coralstown/Kinnegad and The Downs. As St. Finians had disposed of a good Athlone team in the quarter-final we knew we would have to be on top of our game from start to finish to come away with a victory. Every player turned in a great performance but special mention must go to Niall Gunning who had his best ever game. Team: Michael Dever, Ciaran Glennon, Dean McDermott, Conal Ennis (Kilbeggan), Niall Gunning, David Lynch (0-1), Liam Varley, Aonghus Clarke (0-1), David Fennell (Kilbeggan 0-2), Damien McCormack (St. Josephs), Paul Fennell (Kilbeggan 0-1f), Alan Clarke (0-1), Luke Peppard (1-1), Neal Kirby (2-02), Niall O'Brien (0-4, 0-3f) Subs: Enda Claffey, Sean Mullarkey (0-1), Ed Bermingham, Cathal Tynan, Kyle Dever, Shane Clavin, Eoin Quinn, Michael Heeney, David Pidgeon, Frankie Deegan, Diarmuid Raleigh.

Under 16 Division 1 Club Championship St. Malachys/Ballinagore 2 - 08
Mullingar Shamrocks 1 - 08 Unlike our previous meeting just five days earlier in the Premier Club Championship where our forwards amassed a big score, this time it was the turn of our back line to win the game for us. Our half back line of Niall Gunning, David Lynch and Liam Varley were colossal but man of the match on the night was full back Dean McDermott. Many thanks and well done to all our players who turned up on the night, many having received their Junior Cert results that day. Panel: Shane Clavin, Ciaran Glennon, Dean McDermott, Enda Claffey, Niall Gunning, David Lynch (0-01f), Liam Varley, Aonghus Clarke (1-3, 0-2f), Michael Dever, Alan Clarke, Niall O’Brien (1-2, 0-1f), Eoin Quinn, Cathal Tynan, Neal Kirby (0-01), Diarmuid Raleigh (0-01).
